After hesitating for a long time, I finally called my birth mother from the garden at home.

The call connected instantly. My heart was full of anxiety - I didn't know how she viewed me as her biological daughter.

Mom's gentle voice came through: "Is that you,Lisa?"

"Yes."

After a moment of silence, I finally spoke what was on my mind:

"Mom, can I move in with you?"

Choked sobs came from the other end: "Of course you can, sweetheart. I'm so happy you want to come live with me."

The heavy weight in my heart finally lifted.

It turns out I wasn't a child without a home after all.

Mom went on to carefully ask about my likes and preferences, saying she wanted to prepare a room for me. She talked to me about many things.

I suddenly felt a warm current flow into my heart.

After chatting with Mom, I contacted a moving company to take the piano to her house.

Just after seeing them off, I returned to find Fiona hugging a kitten, with Elvis smiling and taking photos of her in front.

"Elvis, am I pretty like this? Thank you for the kitten, I love animals so much!"

"You're beautiful, Fiona. You're the most beautiful woman in the world!"

Their conversation carried clearly to my ears even from a distance.

In the 9 years Elvis and I were together, he had never taken a single photo of me.

Every time I suggested going on a trip, he would refuse, citing work.

But these days he seemed like a completely different person, spending all his time with Fiona.

Seeing me walk past them, Elvis stopped me and handed me the camera:

"Perfect timing, come take a photo of us."

In the viewfinder, Fiona hugged the cat and turned to kiss Elvis's cheek.

The scene was utterly ironic.

After I left, Elvis texted me to explain: [Lisa, please understand. I'm just reassuring a patient. I promise I won't do anything beyond your boundaries with Fiona.]

[Once she regains her memory, we'll have our wedding as planned. You'll still be my beautiful bride then.]

I didn't reply to him.

While I was packing my luggage, Fiona barged into my room.

"What, going back to your poor mother's slum?"

Seeing that I ignored her taunts and continued packing, Fiona grew furious:

"You better behave yourself tonight and not steal my spotlight."

"I want you to watch with your own eyes as I take back everything that's rightfully mine step by step."

Her gaze shifted to my still unpackaged paintings, hatred crystallizing in her eyes. She lunged forward to grab my hair:

"If it weren't for you, I would be the one excelling in music, chess, calligraphy and painting now.Lisa, what right do you have to steal my life!"

I dodged Fiona's attack and coldly looked at her: "You're faking your memory loss?"

She smirked proudly, "So what if I am? An outstanding man like Elvis can only be mine. No matter who you tell, they won't believe you over me."

"You and your mother are both trash! You can't even keep your own man - whose fault is that?"

I could tolerate Fiona's earlier outbursts and throwing out my things - after all, they did belong to the Johnsons.

But for her to insult the mother who had raised her for over 20 years, I felt this person's heart had turned completely cold.

Mom is an outstanding woman. Though she grew up without parents, she still managed to get into college through her own efforts and government aid in that era.

Now she's a university professor. She had always treated Fiona like a precious jewel and never mistreated her.

But after Fiona found her birth parents, she pretended to lose her memory just to cut ties, and now called Mom "trash" at every turn.

Fiona probably didn't know that when she found her birth parents, Mom had also found hers - a family in a hundred times more powerful than the Johnsons.
