Her Well-Hidden Secret

After a long business trip, a husband returns home to find his wife, Nydia Cooper, waiting on the couch in an alluring pose. When he sets down a cake near the TV cabinet, he spots a faint red light in the drawer below and discovers a hidden camera. Nydia tearfully calls it a security measure, since she is often alone with their daughter, Rylee.

Yet doubts linger. Nydia claims her mother took Rylee for a few days, but her mother died years ago, and her stepmother, Lauren Smith, is not the type to miss the child. Then a message from someone saved as Ms. Wright carries odd file names ending in 720, echoing a college roommate's habit of encoding times. At a candlelight dinner, the husband excuses himself at 7:20 PM and steps outside, where he finds Lauren dragging a weeping, scratched Rylee. When he returns to the private room, Nydia is gone.

The camera, the cryptic numbers, and his wife's quiet trembling all point to something he cannot yet name.
