Whispers and Wild Guesses

During a live variety show, Zoey Hall tries to get the award-winning actor Ethan Vance to guess a phrase by asking what he'd call it if she randomly slapped him while they were dating. Ethan answers with a string of absurd, flirtatious guesses, and the studio and live comments erupt. When she moves on to the phrase for "ex-partner," his answers grow even more outrageous, and Zoey realizes he is doing it on purpose.

Backstage afterward, the dressing room lights are off when the door shuts and Ethan pins her against it, licking dried cream from her cheek and reminding her of the reason she once dumped him. Urgent knocking reveals their microphones were never switched off, and the whole world may now know something is going on between them.

Ethan refuses to let go, offering to cook dinner and threatening to find her if she stays away. Zoey recalls their first meeting at the script reading for their drama, Fleeting Life, where she questioned him as an anti-fan of his rival, Julian West.
