Story

The story

Randolf has spent his life supporting Nella and Allen, the Browers twins who confessed their love to him when they were ten. When he refuses to fund their broke classmate Jeremy Mabbitt's trip, the two steal the money he had saved for an emergency. His grandmother dies in pain because he cannot afford even painkillers, and Jeremy sends him a photo of the twins walking hand in hand with him, claiming they are both his now.

Debt collectors break all five of Randolf's fingers, ending the piano skills he relied on to make a living. The twins refuse to believe him, insisting Jeremy guaranteed the loans were legitimate. Nella traces a childhood secret on his palm, asking him to come to their birthday party, but Allen notices the tattoo of their wedding vows is gone.

Randolf agrees to attend what he knows will be their last celebration together, carrying expensive gifts and a heart full of grief.
