He Locked Me On The Interstate

Lydia has just driven her new Tesla off the lot when the car chokes and locks itself at twelve miles per hour in the middle lane of the interstate. Horns blare and a semi-truck swerves around her. On the phone, her boyfriend Wyatt explains that he capped the speed through the app so Myra could take the keys for a ski trip, then tells her to pull over and hand the car to Myra's cousin Trent.

At the delivery center, Lydia tries to reverse the purchase. Wyatt is a smart-vehicle integration engineer who bound the car's account to his own profile; he paid nothing toward it, while her sixty-thousand-dollar down payment held her grandmother's fifteen thousand, three years of overtime and the money saved to renovate their future home. Wyatt, Myra and Trent arrive demanding the keys.

As Myra weeps and Wyatt pries Lydia's fingers open, a sales associate calls the security guard.
