Story
The story
Aria grew up under a mother famous for being the perfect wife and mother, a woman who kept a spotless house and always asked her daughter what man would ever marry her. Now Aria is married to Lucas, a considerate husband who happily handles the cooking and housework. When her mother watches him in the kitchen, her disapproval curdles into something harsher: she forces Aria to her knees before Lucas, insisting men must be firm and women obedient, and slaps Aria when she talks back. Lucas refuses to accept it, and her mother leaves in anger.
Months later, Aria is pregnant, and her mother moves in to care for her. The devotion seems genuine until Lucas mentions the baby looks like a girl. Her mother demands Aria end the pregnancy and try again for a son, warning that a daughter will leave her with no standing. Aria and Lucas stand together against her, but the old rules she was raised on will not let go quietly.
