Story

The story

Cast aside by the wealthy Zimmerman family, the real daughter is blamed for every misfortune and denied even a place in their home. Her design sketches are stolen by Gina, the girl who took her place, and her own family brands her a plagiarist, while her fiancé Leo, the rescue captain, and her brothers Jeremy and Orlando turn their backs on her. Pushed off a cliff and left to die, she wakes to find her body broken and her calls for help mocked.

Orlando, a forensic pathologist, examines a mutilated corpse without realizing it is his sister, dismissing the bracelet on its wrist as a coincidence. At Gina's celebration, the family toasts her success and slanders the missing daughter, never suspecting the truth lying on Orlando's table. When a phone call reveals a sighting at the OB-GYN department, Gina flinches, knowing what she did at the cliff's edge.

Opening excerpt

When I woke up, nearly all my bones had been shattered. I called my fiancé, the captain of the rescue team, but he was cradling the fake daughter's sprained ankle.

He scoffed, "Oh, you had an accident too? Want me to save you?
