Falling Back to the Way Home

For eight years, Danielle Genarro has loved Cicio Russo, a mafia don whose attention has long since drifted elsewhere. When she learns he has fallen for someone else, she forces a choice: end things with her, or send the other woman away overseas. He chooses Danielle, and she believes their relationship has been restored.

But the distance between them only widens. Cicio spends his nights in his study rather than with her, and the meals she reheats and the lights she leaves on go unanswered. When she finally asks him to marry her, he agrees without warmth, appearing only three times throughout the wedding preparations.

On the wedding day itself, a small boy runs down the aisle calling Cicio "Daddy," and Cicio walks away without looking back. Days later, Danielle finds him at a kindergarten with Jessica Kolt, the boy's mother and once her own intern assistant, being greeted as husband and wife. As she packs her belongings to leave his house, she must decide how much of herself she is still willing to surrender.
