The Game Was Rigged

The night before his marriage registration, George Rayner plays a mystery box game with his fiancée Charlotte Kilbourn and his childhood friend Lyra Sharpe. While Connor Winfield receives a limited-edition watch, a couples' island vacation and a handwritten note, George's box holds only a card reading thanks for participating. Overhearing the hosts confirm the prizes were arranged, he recalls his eighteenth birthday, when Charlotte and Lyra gave their only umbrella to Connor and told George to run home in the rain.

He tears up the card and cancels the registration. At the party, Charlotte tells Connor to keep the watch, Lyra warns George not to embarrass them, and Connor's tears turn the room against him. The next morning George tries on wedding outfits alone; Charlotte stays at the hospital with Connor, though she sends shoes and a note about his heels. Lyra arrives hours later and says only that he looks great.
