Story

The story

In a world far below his own, Felix serves as husband to Natalie Brooke, a CEO who has poured years of devotion into her stepfather, Michael Sawyer. When Michael returns on the day of the Moon Festival, Natalie abandons Felix to fetch him from the airport, then orders Felix to cook dumplings for the man. Michael knocks the bowl over, burns his own hand, and whispers a taunt in Felix's ear; Natalie slaps Felix and has the bodyguards seal him inside a pot of boiling water as punishment, ignoring his screams and the blood spilling across the floor.

Only after his body is stewed tender does Felix's soul drift free, and he understands the truth: he and Natalie are not from this world. She lies in a coma in their original world, and he crossed into lower worlds to restore her consciousness. Now he begs the system to send him back, but the main system is under maintenance, and he must wait a month while Natalie dotes on Michael and dismisses every sign of what she has done.

Trapped as a ghost, Felix can only watch the woman he sacrificed everything to save choose another man.

Opening excerpt

When the dumplings were knocked over and burned Michael's hand, she assumed that I was being disrespectful to an elder. So, she ordered the bodyguards to put me into a large pot, saying she would boil me until I was cooked as punishment.

"Since you burned Michael, I will make you pay the price!"

The water in the pot grew hotter, causing my whole body to be scalded red. All I could breathe was the scorching steam.
