Story

The story

The war against the Shadowlands is over, and two brothers return: one a hero, the other in a casket. Lyra knows the truth. The man standing beside her sister Seraphina is not the Crown Prince Kael, but Kaiden, her own husband, who has stolen his twin's identity to keep the kingdom from civil war. He swears he will return to her once the succession is secure. In her last life, she believed him, and he had her executed for colluding with the enemy.

Now Lyra wakes on the day the news of his death arrives. Kaiden wears his brother's face and holds Seraphina's hand while the Dragon King and Queen mourn, and the Queen blames Lyra for her son's death. When the King asks her intentions, Lyra refuses a century of mourning and declares she will remarry. Kaiden is outraged, and no lord dares accept her.

Then Jax, the Warlord of the Dragon Lords, descends from the ceiling and kneels. He offers her his vow, and she accepts.

Opening excerpt

Everyone said what a tragedy it was, how pitiful I was.

But I knew the truth. The man standing beside her wasn’t her husband, Kael. It was my husband, Kaiden.

They were identical twins, their power so closely matched that no one could spot the difference.
