Story

The story

A viral video shows a young boy crying for his missing mother, and online sleuths track down Chen Xiaohan, a 24-year-old university graduate. The boy, Xiao Bao, arrives at her door with his father Zhang Qiang, his grandmother, and a crowd of reporters, all broadcasting live. The child clings to her, calling her "Mommy," while the family insists she abandoned them and must return to their mountain village. The internet erupts, demanding she accept them.

Chen Xiaohan refuses, pointing out that no birth certificate, marriage certificate, or any document bears her name. The family produces only a blurry wedding video and claims Xiao Bao was born at home. When Zhang Qiang tries to prove her identity by a birthmark, it is absent. As millions watch and the pressure mounts, she has already called the police—and then her phone rings with a call from her boss.
