Once Upon a Story of Us

For seven years, Evelyn Walsh stayed by Matteo Gallagher's side. She was the maid's daughter who followed her mother into the Gallagher mansion, the one who volunteered to tend him after he lost his sight saving Rebecca Pittman, the one who knelt three days and nights to bring a renowned doctor out of retirement. When Matteo regained his sight and reclaimed his place as heir, she believed she had earned her place beside him.

Then, in the back of a car, she overhears a call between Matteo and his closest friend, Alex Hall. In Haranese she was never supposed to understand, Matteo admits he has legally married Rebecca, the woman who abandoned him, and plans to hide it behind a fake marriage certificate for Evelyn.

Set out on a sidewalk with tears she cannot stop, Evelyn finally understands that the years she gave were never enough. She calls Caroline Olsen and accepts five million dollars to leave Matteo forever, signing the contract without hesitation. But Rebecca has already posted the marriage certificates for the world to see.
