Story

The story

Violet is the consigliere of the Leon mafia family in New York, the woman who wrote the rules of the city's underworld. For ten years she has kept Drake Leon at her side, raising him from a bloodied stray on the streets of Brooklyn to the boss of the Manhattan port district.

At the Godfather's winter banquet, Drake lets a pregnant girl named Lina wear the blue diamond necklace Violet's mother left her and sit in the seat that should have been Violet's. Violet does not lose her temper; she leaves, and that night sends Drake a gift box holding the hospital's pathology report and the child Lina lost. Drake storms in with a gun to her forehead, and Violet answers by freezing his warehouses, shipping routes and accounts.

What Drake wants is her power, and what Violet wants back is everything she gave him.

Opening excerpt

My name is Violet. I was the consigliere to the Leon mafia family in New York, and I wrote the rules of this city’s underworld myself. Yet, the man I had kept by my side for ten years, Drake Leon, was now trampling all over them.

Ten years was more than enough time for a stray dog to grow into a wolf that can stand on its own.
