Story

The story

Jasmine's foster sister Sienna drugged her on SAT exam day and abandoned her on a deserted island six thousand miles away. There she was kept by a local fisherman, bore his child, and spent seven years in rough burlap, believing her boyfriend Sebastian had died trying to rescue her.

When the fisherman finally pulls off his hood, the face is Sebastian's. He confesses he brought her there to make her give up her Ivy League recommendation spot for Sienna, and that he faked his death to break her will to leave. He tells her that her mother died of illness, that her father married Sienna's mother, and that Sienna now has everything. Jasmine learns Sebastian fell for Sienna years ago and helped her ruin her life.

Then Sienna herself arrives at the island, and a slap lands on Jasmine's face.

Opening excerpt

My foster sister Sienna became jealous. On SAT exam day, she drugged me unconscious and abandoned me on a deserted island six thousand miles away.

When my boyfriend found me, I already had a child with a local fisherman.

He risked his life trying to take me away, but the other fishermen beat him to death with clubs.

Grief-stricken and desperate, I tried drowning myself in the sea several times.

The fisherman husband saved me each time, until finally he grew impatient and pulled off his hood, revealing my boyfriend's face.
