Story

The story

Lucien Varelli loved his wife Serena best when her devotion belonged entirely to him, until the night she cut off a call from Celeste Ardian. After that she was no longer his wife but a scandal, a woman too unstable to stand beside the heir of a ruling house. Lucien signed the papers and sent her to St. Dymphna House, a private clinic where inconvenient women are broken down and rebuilt into something quieter.

Five years later he brings her home, expecting the woman he sent away. But St. Dymphna taught Serena to lower her eyes, soften her voice, and smile like a proper Donna, and Lucien mistakes that stillness for a cure. In Varelli House, Celeste has already taken root, and a small boy named Matteo waits with a whisper about who ruins the peace.

Serena has learned to obey. What she has not yet shown anyone is what obedience has cost her, or what she intends to do with the silence they made.
