Story

The story

When Serena was seven, her father brought home a girl named Chloe and told her to treat her as her own sister. Chloe was the daughter of his deceased first love, and from then on his eyes rarely landed on Serena. Chloe was fragile, so he stayed at the hospital with her, so much that he could not return in time to see his wife before she died. He begged Serena not to blame her sister.

After the funeral, Serena stopped fighting. She dyed her red hair black, returned to school, and studied hard, promising her mother she would get into a good college. The family savings were gone, the house and car sold, and they lived in a rental paid for by her uncle. Chloe recovered, but Serena's mother had died because they could not afford timely treatment for her.

On Chloe's eighteenth birthday, her father cooked only Chloe's favorite dishes and snatched the knife from Serena's hand when she chopped chilies. Blood ran down her fingers. What about her own eighteenth birthday, spent in the hospital with her mother?
