Story

The story

Summer learns she is two months pregnant just before her wedding. When her fiancé Luke jokes drunkenly that he is not ready to be a father, she agrees calmly, remembering a past life in which she kept the child while his first love Riley lost her own and could not conceive again. Blamed for that loss, Summer was treated coldly by Luke and by the son she raised, and she bled to death after an accident while Luke and the boy hurried to celebrate Riley's childbirth.

Reborn, Summer refuses to repeat that path. She calls Eric Nottingham, head of her department, and joins his expedition team to Glacia, a two-year assignment departing the same day as her wedding. When Riley phones in distress during a storm, Summer urges Luke to go to her, then arranges an abortion and lets him walk away.

As Luke plays the devoted husband to Riley, Summer prepares to leave behind the man and the family who never chose her.

Opening excerpt

Luke Logan drunkenly caresses my belly and half-jokes, "I'm not ready to be a father, Summer. Can we not keep the baby?"

My heart is calm. I say softly, "Sure."

In my past life, I insisted on keeping the child. Meanwhile, Riley Richards had an accidental miscarriage, making it difficult for her to conceive again.

Luke held a grudge against me for that and treated me coldly after we married.
