Story

The story

Three days after Mandy Robinson's death, Isaac Thornton locks his wife Nicole in a steel cage and sinks her into the ocean, ordering her to repent. He does not know she is pregnant with his child. As her soul drifts free, Liam Donovan pleads for her life, but Isaac refuses, mourning Mandy and vowing to torture the woman he blames for her death.

Yet Mandy is not dead. Rescued by fishermen, she returns and Isaac embraces her, promising to divorce Nicole and marry Mandy once Nicole donates a kidney. Nicole, already drowned, watches helplessly as Liam is punished for trying to save her, and Mandy reveals she knows the truth.

Bound to Isaac even in death, Nicole can only follow him to the shore where Liam begs for her release.

Opening excerpt

"You vicious woman," he spat. "Stay here and repent to Mandy!"

He didn't know I carried his child. I thrust the pregnancy confirmation toward him, but he walked away without a backward glance.

Yet when he later saw my corpse—bloated and decomposing in the seawater—he went insane.

My soul drifted up from a cage at the bottom of the ocean, somehow ending up near Isaac Thornton.

Liam Donovan, his assistant, told Isaac, "Mr. Thornton, Mrs. Thornton's been in the ocean for a day and a night. The water's freezing; she might not make it."
