Story

The story

A man on a family road trip stops at a rest stop, where he helps an elderly woman who has fallen. His wife, Cindy Ford, and their eight-year-old daughter, Tessa Hayes, turn on him at once, abandoning him there; his in-laws, including Phoebe Lloyd, demand a divorce, and even his doting parents cast him out. He dies struck by a truck, never understanding his fault.

He wakes back at the moment of the fall, hand already outstretched. He withdraws it and walks away, hoping to escape his fate. Yet Cindy and Tessa soon spurn him again, Phoebe calls him a jinx, and strangers recoil in disgust. He hires a private investigator to uncover the old lady's identity, determined to learn the truth this time.
