Story

The story

Four months after their breakup, Zara tells Leo she is pregnant. He insists they used protection and refuses the child, so she raises her daughter Zoe alone, spending her savings on a city-center home to reach a top-tier school district. On Zoe's first day of school, the six-year-old brings home a man claiming to be her father and demanding custody.

Leo, unchanged and furious, accuses Zara of scheming for his family's money. She answers with a six-year-old recording of his own refusal, and warns him that a DNA test after six years of silence grants him nothing. Then his elegant mother arrives at Zara's patisserie, offering a jade bracelet and asking only to be close to Zoe.

Zara leaves the choice to her daughter, who never turns down a free lunch and knows how to fire back a cannonball.

Four months after we broke up, I called Leo. "I'm pregnant. Do you want this baby?"

Leo was quick to distance himself. "We used protection every single time. Don't you dare pin this on me."

I asked one more time, just to be sure. "So you're positive you don't want this child, right?"
