The Charm

Penny, an orphan who once scraped by delivering food in the rain, is now dating Liam, the pampered young master of the Shen family, who showers her with gifts and attention. But when Liam video chats with his roommate, the face that appears on screen is Caleb — the boy Penny once loved, and the one she thought she had left behind.

Caleb still keeps the charm she gave him, the one holding the safety talisman she begged for at a mountain temple after his accident, when she guarded his ward and they traded matching scars. Now Liam's bracelet on her wrist bears his own name, and the two men trade barbs over who she truly belongs to.

As rain falls outside the dorm, Caleb pulls Penny under his umbrella, and the memory of another rainy night — his warmth at her back, her heart pounding — returns. The charm in his hand is crushed, and the question he cannot ask hangs between them.
