Love Like Falling Petals

For five years, Sophie Lord endured round after round of IVF, and at last she is pregnant with Luke Shaw's child. Yet on the very day she leaves the doctor's office, she finds Luke at the hospital beside Helen Jones, his assistant, his hand resting on Helen's belly. He had told Sophie he was away on business.

When Sophie asks him to choose between her and the child Helen carries, Luke refuses to let that child go and pushes Sophie to the ground to shield Helen. Bleeding and abandoned, Sophie is rushed into surgery, where Dr. Clinton cannot save the baby she fought so long to conceive.

As she lies in the hospital bed, Sophie recalls the young man who once knelt with a ring and swore he would never let her be heartbroken. Now she knows their marriage has reached its end.
