Story

The story

Hayden Cole and Avery were a match made in hell, famous in their circles for a decade of mutual torment. On the first day of his return, he trashed her bar to win a smile from Lily, his nineteen-year-old fiancée, and Avery split his lip. What does a dying woman have to ask for? After her final check-up, she dialed the number she had saved for ten years: if he truly wanted to compensate her, he could be the one to collect her body.

That rainy night, Lily booked the whole bar, and Hayden arrived with roses, his gaze heavy with history. When his friend Seth sneered at Avery, she shoved the cash into Hayden's mouth, poured the cocktails down his throat, and slapped Lily. Hayden answered by having his bodyguards tear her bar apart, then tossed her pill bottle into a puddle and left with Lily.

Avery is out of time, and Hayden still does not know.

Opening excerpt

After a decade of mutual torment, we’d finally called a truce.

But on the very first day of his return to the country, he trashed my bar, all to win a smile from some new girl.

So I split his lip.

“Tch. Smashing up your place felt good,” he’d sneered, dabbing at the blood. “Name your price for the damages. Anything you want.”

What does a dying woman have to ask for?
