Story

The story

Norah comes home soaked and feverish after a storm, too weak to cook. Her partner Mason rushes in only to take the medicine and make broth for Sadie, his assistant, who has a cold. When Norah says she is ill too, he accuses her of seeking attention and leaves to spend the night with Sadie, ignoring her fever and the chores he had promised to handle.

Alone, with pharmacies shut by the storm, Norah cannot buy medicine. Scrolling a viral thread about the moment you realize someone no longer loves you, she posts that she no longer loves him either. Then she finds Sadie's videos: Mason's voice, his hands, his tenderness, and a new car bought for her.

As the storm rages and her fever burns, Norah decides to rely only on herself, and her feelings for Mason finally go quiet.

Opening excerpt

Mason, who had told me he’d be out late at a business dinner, suddenly rushed through the front door.

He rummaged through the medicine cabinet, pulled out the Tylenol, and without even looking up at me, said, "Sadie caught a cold in the rain today. Make her some warm chicken broth. I’m heading over to drop off the medicine, and I’ll take the soup to her."

Right then, my phone buzzed. A viral post on my feed caught my eye: At what exact moment did you realize they didn’t love you anymore?
