The Second Choice Never Stayed

Luca Moretti is heir to the Moretti family and Bella's childhood sweetheart, the boy she has loved for five years. He always promised she would be his wife once he took over the family. Then, one night with his arms still around her, he asks for another woman's number and tells her he will not spend his life with only one woman, though no one else will touch the position of Mrs. Moretti. Bella finally understands: he wants her loyalty and silence, but never meant to give the same.

She moves out of his house, refusing his offer of an open arrangement. Luca introduces her to Mira, a new singer at one of the De Luca clubs, as family, then takes Mira to South Dock, a private place Bella was never allowed to enter, and shows her off publicly. When the girls in the side wing ask if she likes anyone, Bella answers yes, just as news arrives that Julian Romano is returning to New York for a charity auction.
