Story

The story

On her wedding day, Elara overhears her father, Harrison Vance, and her groom, Hugh Sullivan, discussing the marriage as a transaction: Hugh has agreed to wed her only to strip her of her claim on the Vance family inheritance, clearing the way for Celia. Elara has her own reasons for the union, and she intends to take back what is rightfully hers.

At the reception, she plays the devoted daughter, publicly pressing her father to declare her his only child. Trapped by his own cherished reputation, Harrison concedes, and his hidden mistress Madeline and her son Caleb storm out in fury.

When Celia crashes the ceremony and slaps Elara, Hugh's divided loyalties surface before the watching guests, and Elara's performance as a fragile bride leaves both of them underestimating her.

As Hugh Sullivan's intended wife, the title of "Mrs. Sullivan" was the last thing I ever wanted.

On our wedding day, standing outside the dressing room, I overheard a conversation between my father and Hugh.

"Hugh, are you truly willing to marry Elara for Celia's sake?"

"If you have second thoughts now, I can still find someone else to take her place."

A heavy sigh from Hugh. "I'm the only one who can tie Elara down, make her give up her claim on the inheritance. Everything I'm doing... it's all for Celia."
