The story

Everyone believed Jessica Conway and Jack Murray were meant to be. High school sweethearts, they were expected to marry and live happily ever after. But Jessica's elder sister, Abby Conway, is treated as gravely ill, and on the eve of the wedding Jack asks Jessica to let Abby be the bride for now, insisting Jessica is the one he loves. Jessica, clutching a stomach cancer diagnosis, says nothing. On the wedding day she never appears; Jack abandons the ceremony and finds only her final diagnosis.

When her boss Kelly Winfrey offers Jessica a place in Paris for advanced training and a chance at the Global Fashion Designers' Competition, she accepts, though it means leaving in a week—the same day as her wedding. At Abby's birthday party, Abby smashes cake into her own face and blames Jessica. Her parents and Jack side with Abby; Jack strikes her. Jessica knows she has a year left, and seven days to end everything.

But then, there was Abby Conway, Jessica's elder sister who was "gravely ill."

On the eve of Jessica and Jack's wedding, he said, "Jess, your sister's really really sick. Let's give her a chance to be the bride for now, alright? You know you're the one I love."

Abby echoed, "Jess, promise me you'll come to the wedding, okay?"

Jessica clutched the stomach cancer diagnosis in her hands and said nothing.

On the wedding day, she never showed up.

Jack, realizing her absence, abandoned the ceremony and rushed home—only to find the house empty.
