The Password I Never Knew

Iris receives a bank card from her parents and a monthly transfer of twenty thousand dollars for living expenses, but they never give her the PIN. Unable to withdraw a single cent, she survives on part-time jobs and cold bread rolls for three years while her mother accuses her of greed and ingratitude.

When her father falls into a coma and needs money, her mother begs Iris to hand over the savings, only to turn deathly pale when reminded the PIN was never shared. Later, a fever leaves Iris with $3.52 and no way to buy medicine, yet her mother sends five thousand dollars to Lily, the housekeeper's daughter. When Iris applies for financial aid, the professor rejects her, saying her mother called to report the monthly transfers, and gives the aid to Lily instead.

Branded a liar by her roommates and professors, Iris must prove the money was never truly hers to spend.
