He Humiliated Me for His Ex,Now He's Begging Me to Stay

The night before the marriage registration, at a singles' party, her fiancé Victor Swanson breaks down over the ex-girlfriend he cannot forget. Everyone expects the usual scene, but she simply drains a bottle of wine, calls the girl to come collect him, takes the check his mother owed her, and walks away without looking back.

What no one knows is that her feelings died the day his cover was blown, the day he ruined her family's finances to prove his love was real. She stayed only to honor her deal with Christine Swanson: a decoy, a stand-in bride absorbing every blow of his war against the arranged marriage. Now his wedding date has arrived, and her job is done.

When a bottle shatters and a shard cuts her brow, she no longer makes a scene. She tells him his last night with the woman he cannot forget has come, and watches his mockery freeze. Alice Frost arrives, and he carries her out without a backward glance, leaving only a check and a cold walk home.
