Story
The story
Diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, Aria Foster buys a grave meant to keep her away from the Foster family in her next life, then drinks paraquat and waits to die in the old house. But the cemetery office calls: another buyer, Mr. Johnson, has signed for the same plot, and the staff want her to give it up.
Too weak to argue, Aria refuses to surrender the grave, even as the paraquat burns through her. She posts in the family group chat asking someone to collect her body, but her father, mother, brothers and twin sister Lily only mock her, calling her a liar and a burden.
As her family's cruelty cuts deeper than the poison, a sudden shout breaks through her daze, calling her name.
Opening excerpt
The day I was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, I chose a grave for myself.
I wanted the tombstone to read: "In my next life, I won't be a Foster."
No more being the despised twin sister, no more biased parents and brothers.
I gulped down a whole glass of paraquat and waited quietly to die in the living room.
But then the cemetery office called.
"Sorry, another gentleman has also purchased that plot..."
"Miss Foster, we can compensate you."
"Would it be alright if we moved your plot slightly?"
