Story

The story

Ross Anders marries the beautiful, aloof Lily Parker, believing he has found happiness at last. But when her brother Finn enters their lives, small favours turn into endless demands for money, favours and forgiveness, and Ross begins to see him as a parasite draining everything he has.

When Finn announces his engagement, Lily demands that Ross hand over the empty house his late parents left him, insisting it is joint property she will claim even in divorce. Their home becomes a battleground, and though Ross tries to hold the marriage together by finding Finn a job, Finn's entitled behaviour ruins every chance he is given.

As Lily keeps taking her brother's side, Ross must decide how much of himself, and of his parents' memory, he is willing to surrender.

Opening excerpt

I always thought my wife was just an ordinary "brother-loving sister," the kind who would do anything for her brother.

But one night, I watched in frozen horror as she dismembered her brother in our storage room.

Then, as if nothing had happened, she turned and looked straight at me.

She flashed her usual gentle smile.

"Honey," she called softly, her voice sweet and familiar—exactly the same as always.

My name is Ross Anders. I'm an ordinary guy, and just a few months ago, I met a beautiful girl and we got married quickly.
