Story
The story
Jason once told Gwen that the person who pulled him from the water is the one he would cherish forever. She kept those words close for four years, never revealing that she had nearly drowned dragging his broken body to shore. Now seven months pregnant, Gwen is pushed down the stairs by Cynthia, and a terrifying rush of blood spreads beneath her as Jason walks in with his private medical team.
Jason steps past his bleeding wife to kneel beside Cynthia, who has only a scratch. He orders the paramedics to tend to Cynthia first, calling Gwen's suffering karma for abandoning him years ago, certain Cynthia is the one who saved his life. When an ambulance finally arrives, his guards block the gurney, and at the hospital Jason directs the specialists to Cynthia's room, leaving Gwen hemorrhaging and fighting to save her baby alone.
As she clings to consciousness, Gwen sends a message to a number she kept blocked for five years, demanding the evidence of what truly happened at the river be brought to light.
Opening excerpt
He’d looked deep into my eyes and said, “The person who pulled me out of that water is the person I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”
I had smiled back then—a quiet, knowing smile. He didn’t know how close I’d come to dying at the bottom of that freezing river just to drag his broken body to shore.
