A Car Crash on Our Anniversary Revealed His Secret

On her third wedding anniversary, Serena Henson is in a car accident. Blood still on her face, she walks into the hospital and finds her husband, Conrad Mason, who claimed to be away on a business trip, escorting his childhood sweetheart, Alberta Delgado, to an exam room. He does not reach for her as she passes. Later, at her bedside, his first words are blame, not concern. He leaves to take Alberta home and promises to return. He never does.

During her entire hospital stay, Conrad sends no call and no message. Serena sees him only in Alberta's posts: cooking in an apron, arranging flowers, sharing cake, captioned as if every day were an anniversary. She goes home alone to wilted anniversary flowers and spoiled soup, and throws them away without anger.

At the hospital he had told Alberta she was not going anywhere. Seven years together, three of them married, and he was certain she would never leave. Serena begins to wonder whether he was right.
