When her sister Lauren emerges from a routine appendectomy missing both kidneys, Dr. Hanna Carpenter takes a scalpel and holds an entire hospital hostage. Outside, Captain Anthony Hatcher pleads through a megaphone while the hospital's director, Michael Harris, and the dean, Robert Sharp, insist a fired intern threw the organs in the trash. Hanna wounds Michael and presses him for the truth, but he clings to the lie. As the livestream goes viral, she turns to the watching world, threatening to kill hostages one by one if the city's transplant records are not produced.
