Story

The story

In her past life, Elara Newman was the neglected wife of Orion Baron, a man who never moved on from his first love, Cyrene Payton. He was absent at her childbirth hemorrhage, at her children's fevers, and when her parents died; at fifty-eight, dying of cancer, she called him and heard her children planning a family photo with Aunt Cyrene. She closed her eyes in despair and woke at twenty-seven.

Now Elara drafts divorce papers and offers them to Cyrene, ready to surrender the title of Mrs. Baron. When Cliff and Emilia call her, sobbing about a kidnapper demanding ten million dollars, she hangs up and calls it a prank, knowing the children staged it in her past life to buy Cyrene a birthday present. She throws away the scarves she knitted for Orion and the children.

Orion returns home to an empty living room, and the children burst in with Cyrene, accusing Elara of abandoning them. Cyrene recounts a rescue, Orion demands to know what happened, and Elara insists the kidnapping was staged. No one believes her.

Opening excerpt

On the day she gave birth, she suffered a severe hemorrhage and lost consciousness. However, Orion was unreachable.

After she was snapped awake by the doctor, she had to sign her name on the surgical consent form while her hands were still shaking.

When her children caught a raging fever, Orion was still nowhere to be seen.

She had to rush to the hospital all by herself, and after three consecutive days of looking after them, she was exhausted and passed out in the corridor.

On the day when her parents passed away in a car accident, Orion was still absent.
