Story
The story
A System assigns a traveler to redeem the villain, but the time travel leaves her in the body of a sixty-year-old woman. Rather than chase romance, she opens a small roadside eatery near the villain's home, determined to reach him through food and watch over him.
In a snowstorm she rescues Caleb, a fifteen-year-old boy beaten in front of her shop, and feeds him hot soup. He is proud and wary, promising to repay her, while the System frets that she is too slow to win him over.
When Caleb's mother, a woman neighbors call mad, holds a rusty knife in the snow and beats him for copying books, the old woman sees the darkness that shaped him and the light a single bowl of soup might become.
