No Home Tonight

On the day before New Year's, a woman drives her new car to collect her younger brother Henry and his girlfriend Suzy Scott for the family dinner, her daughter Tracy riding along. Suzy's face darkens at the sight of the child, and Henry quickly promises his sister will stay at a hotel after dropping them off. He warns her not to make trouble: Suzy is the daughter of the Cromwell Group's CEO. The woman is stunned, for the Cromwell Group is the very company her ex-husband handed over to her in their divorce settlement.

Suzy sneers at the car, forbids Tracy a cookie, complains of feeling sick, and suggests the woman and her daughter find a cab. At the family home she insults the food and the child's manners, and the woman's mother offers the guest room, which has no heater. When the woman reveals she is divorced, her father slaps her, furious that his son has lost a useful connection. Her mother demands she apologize to Suzy, who threatens to forget her pregnancy, and her father says nothing in her defense.
