A Record of Papa’s Death

Gwen's husband, the mafia capo Rocco Marchetti, has poured all his attention into Carmela, the widow of his brother Salvatore, and her son Elio. At home, their daughter Tessy has begun writing in her diary that her Papa is dead, telling her Catholic school nuns he passed away long ago and writing only "To Heaven" on her Father's Day prayer card.

When Rocco finally notices the chill at home, he rushes back to celebrate Tessy's birthday, only to find her new diary titled If Papa Were Still Alive. Before he can mend anything, Carmela calls, and he abandons the dress he bought to protect Elio. Tessy throws the dress away, asking whether dead people give presents.

Gwen, an orthopedic surgeon who gave up her career for Rocco, opens a sealed acceptance letter from a medical institute and circles a date fifteen days away. She and Tessy will leave the city as if Rocco never existed.
