The story
On the same day Heather and Clara give birth to boys, Heather secretly swaps the infants in the hospital. Clara sees the switch but says nothing. Years later, Clara raises Heather's son Ezra, who becomes an Ivy League PhD, while her own biological son Calvin is abused by Heather, pulled from school, and sent to a steel factory in Detroit. When Calvin falls ill with cirrhosis, Heather refuses to pay for his treatment, calling him a mutt. After Calvin dies, Heather plans to reveal the swap at Ezra's wedding to reclaim him. Clara simply smiles, knowing the truth.
