Story

The story

A woman's family home burns, and her father is badly burned while saving her sister. Needing blood, she asks her fiancé for help, but he sends the city's blood banks to her lightly burned sister instead. Leonard Gallagher then arrives, takes 600ml of her own blood, and she collapses from the loss. She wakes to learn her father is dead and her own face is disfigured.

Three years into marriage with Leonard, pregnant and unconscious, she overhears him arranging another skin graft for Zoe Lore's cosmetic surgery. The records reveal her skin has been harvested again and again for Zoe, even as her father's death anniversary approaches and Leonard plans to spend it elsewhere.

Betrayed and grieving, she faces a husband who calls Zoe his goddess and a body given away piece by piece.

Opening excerpt

I'm not in the vicinity, so I ask my fiancé to help. He tells me the hospital doesn't have enough blood stored and mobilizes the city's blood banks—he does it to save my sister, who only has minor burns.

Leonard Gallagher shows up when I'm at my most desperate. He takes 600ml of my blood and rushes back to my hometown. Meanwhile, I pass out by the roadside due to severe blood loss.

When I wake up, Leonard tells me my father has died due to significant blood loss. I'm disfigured after knocking my head on a sharp rock.
