His Heart Never Left Her

George's first love, Eve, is back, and her family villa is headed for auction. When Karen asks whether he still has feelings for Eve, he says that was all in the past. She believes him — until his phone lights up at two in the morning with a bank transfer of eight hundred thousand dollars, the final payment on Eve's villa, made from their joint marital assets without a word to her.

Eve's posts follow: a garden, a front door captioned "Home," a white dress and thanks for the one who stayed. George insists he was only helping an old friend and calls Karen sensitive, then promises to cut off contact and return the money. Yet Eve keeps texting, asking when he will collect the spare key, and Karen finds him awake past midnight, still deciding how to answer.

Married three years, Karen once believed she was the lucky one. Now she wonders whether she was ever the one he loved, or only the one who made sense.
