Story

The story

Marlena Anderson is kidnapped alongside her husband's true love, Sue Larsson. Near death, she calls Howard Jenne and begs him to save her and his autistic brother, Xander. Howard believes it is an act and pays the ransom only for Sue, leaving Marlena and Xander to die at the kidnappers' hands.

As drifting souls, Marlena and Xander watch Howard dote on Sue, blaming Marlena for a staged kidnapping and giving Sue the Morsee Dance Troupe role that was once Marlena's. He blocks Marlena's worried mother and moves Sue into the master bedroom, blind to the truth.

Then the police arrive with photos of a heinous murder, asking Howard to identify his wife and brother.

Opening excerpt

I'm kidnapped at the same time as my husband's true love. I call him on the verge of death and beg him to save me.

However, he thinks I'm putting on an act and only pays the ransom for his true love. He leaves me and his brother to die. Before hanging up, he snaps, "Drop the act, Marlena! Can't you see how terrified Sue is? I'll get even with you for hiring someone to kidnap her!"

It's too bad Howard Jenne will never get even with me for this. The moment he turns his back on me and his autistic brother, the kidnappers kill us.

I died a gruesome death.
