Story

The story

After a car accident lands Chloe in the ER, her fiancé Gavin arrives late with his assistant Sophie in tow. When Sophie complains her phone is dead, Gavin yanks the plug of Chloe's heart monitor from the wall to charge it, ignoring her injuries and the nurse's fury. He leaves with Sophie, and for three days Chloe lies alone in her hospital bed while photos surface of Gavin renting a yacht for Sophie, rose petals and all.

Discharged with a broken arm and a cast, Chloe goes straight to the bridal shop and cancels the wedding, ordering the framed photos of her and Gavin smashed and dumped. As the last frame shatters, Gavin and Sophie walk up, and Gavin's selective blindness about Chloe's injuries returns.

Chloe's title of fiancée means nothing against Gavin's soulmate assistant, and the wedding she once planned is the first thing she lets go.

Opening excerpt

My boyfriend arrived late, with his personal assistant in tow.

The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor seemed to annoy Sophie. She turned to Gavin, pouting.

"Gavin, baby, my phone died. Can you unplug this noisy machine so I can charge it?"

Gavin looked at me, lying weak and pale on the hospital bed, and his voice was ice cold.

"What a waste of a trip. I thought it was actually serious."
