Story

The story

Matthew has spent ten years married to Shannon Ruppert, a wife who never let him touch her. When their house catches fire, he carries her from the flames, only to hear her beg that Charles Rice, her first love, be the one saved. She admits she can never love him, so Matthew holds her and jumps from the sixth floor, breaking her fall with his own body.

He wakes on the morning he was meant to drive Shannon to college. This time he refuses the flowers, tells his butler Gary Mitchell to skip her house, and heads for Belham University instead. He blocks Shannon and Charles, then messages Charles to go and claim her.

As his train pulls out, Shannon races alongside it in a sports car, shouting that their story is not over. At her house, she turns Charles away, calling Matthew her boyfriend.

Opening excerpt

I've been married to my wife, Shannon Ruppert, for ten years, but we've slept in separate beds the entire time.

The day our house catches fire, the flames are so intense that no one dares to approach.

Still, I rush inside, knowing the ceiling could collapse at any moment. Ignoring the pain as my skin burns, I strain to lift the wardrobe pinning her down.
