Dad, I'm Letting You Go

In a remote compound, a boy named Benjamin Carter watches his father, a captive from the city, endure beatings and chains at the hands of his mother and grandmother. When Benjamin was six, he betrayed his father's escape plan for a piece of bread, and his father was whipped, then took his own life; soon after, his mother beat Benjamin to death in a drunken rage.

Now Benjamin has woken again on the very day his father meant to flee. This time he reports the plan once more, not out of loyalty but to spare his father's legs, while he secretly gathers herbs and waits for a chance to free him. His father, believing Benjamin chose the family that keeps him chained, turns away from him with hatred.

Benjamin still loves the man who once held him and promised to get them both out. He means to send his father home, even if it costs him everything.
