The story

While clearing out her son Liam's dorm room, Maya Sterling finds a blood donor card listing type B. She and her husband Mark are both type O. When she demands a DNA test, Mark slaps her and deadbolts her inside the house. Calmly, she calls the CEO of his company's biggest rival and offers to transfer the exclusive patent rights she has quietly owned for years.

A test confirms she shares no biological maternal bond with Liam, and a private investigator traces a decade of offshore payments from Mark to her adopted sister Sarah Bennett, who bought a French property the year Maya learned she was pregnant. Sarah returns from Europe to a VP post Mark arranged, wearing the emerald bangle Maya once admired at auction.

As her family gathers for dinner, Maya says nothing and waits.

While cleaning out my son's dorm room, I stumbled upon his blood donor card. The blood type listed was B.

But my husband and I are both Type O. It is biologically impossible for us to produce a child with Type B blood.

I confronted my husband with the card. Mark, usually so polite and measured, exploded in a sudden, violent rage.

"Our son is in college! What the hell is your problem? You're constantly paranoid! Are you going psychotic again?!"
