Story

The story

Frank Collins has spent ten years delivering orders around Maplewood Terrace, always on time, always calm. When a trash bag leaking blood is found and tenants keep vanishing, property manager Sam Hendricks points the police straight at him. Frank shrugs it off, even as officers uncover a hidden metal box of raw, bloodied scraps and press him about his missing daughter, Lily Collins, gone nearly two weeks after he filed a report and then withdrew it.

Lily's soul drifts beside her father, watching him hauled to his apartment, where a freezer holds her mangled body. She remembers the night she was dragged into a dark basement, the men who paid to have their fun, and the life before it: her mother's death in the rain, Frank's affair with Carla Montgomery, his endless deliveries, and the coldness between a father and the daughter he called deadweight.

Now Doug Montgomery rages for his own missing wife, neighbors whisper, and Frank laughs at every question. Lily, already dead, still aches at his words, and cannot look away from what her father did after she was gone.

Opening excerpt

He was always on time, even offering to take out customers' trash on his way down.

It didn't take long before the property manager began to suspect something dark, that maybe those missing tenants were actually hidden in the garbage bags Dad took downstairs.

Dad only chuckled calmly at this.
