Story

The story

Dylan Dunham earned an offer from Gauthier Corp after five rounds of interviews, only for his girlfriend Yvette Klutz to report him behind his back so Kevin Hardwick could take the spot. Kevin got the job and a welcome parade; Yvette called Dylan selfish for complaining, insisting Kevin was jobless and stressed and that Dylan could simply apply elsewhere. Dylan said nothing about his sister Haisley, the CEO, and quietly accepted a full-time offer at Gauthier Corp instead of the internship.

Yvette, still convinced Dylan had nothing lined up, asked him to hand over his hard-won prep materials so Kevin could pass probation, and promised to put in a good word for him with the higher-ups. Dylan agreed, cold and exact, while Kevin posted smug photos and tagged Yvette in the class group chat.

On Dylan's first day, the two ran into him outside the building, Yvette gloating and Kevin offering to ask around for work. Neither of them knew where Dylan was actually headed.

Opening excerpt

I told Yvette Klutz, my girlfriend. Dumb move. She reported me behind my back and got me dropped.

"Kevin's freaking out about not landing a job, so I gave him this one. Just shoot out a few more résumés. It's only a few days."

Right. Kevin Hardwick got the job and a full-on welcome parade.
