Story
The story
For five years, Camille has kept her relationship with Sean on a strict ledger, splitting every cost down to the cent and calling it respect for his independence. Then, at their anniversary dinner, she demands twenty-four dollars for his dessert and rushes off to buy Todd, her childhood friend, two full cases of a limited-edition designer toy. Sean had wanted that same collectible for three months, only to be told he was too old for children's junk.
When Camille hands Sean a bottle of room-temperature water for his gastritis, a Splitwise alert instantly bills him three dollars and fifty cents. He buys one blind box for himself, opens the common edition, and settles the dessert debt with a single word. Watching Camille dote on Todd, he sees the truth: her independence is his excuse to receive nothing, while Todd's helplessness earns everything.
By morning, the chilled dessert and the drafty boutique have left his stomach in agony, and Camille brings him porridge.
